Excellent storytelling and an almost farcically-obsessed villain made the pages fly by. This free Kindle edition contains some errors in formatting and spelling - mainly the lack of a TAB oftentimes at the beginning of new paragraphs. However, considering the book was free and the story was engrossing, I didn't find it too distracting. To sum up the plot, the Scarlet Pimpernel is a mysterious and elusive vigilante who leads a band of 19 Englishmen (all of wealthy, privileged backgrounds) that have saved innumerable French aristocrats from Madame Guillotine. We follow a young woman as she is blackmailed into essentially revealing his identity, and, upon her finding out exactly who he is, she speeds off to France to try to save him and rectify her actions. A splendid blend of adventure, mystery, and second-chance romance, "The Scarlet Pimpernel" was well worth it. 4.5 stars.
